Year 3 in Business: The Mindset Shift That Changed Everything
In August of 2022, I started my photography business with little more than a camera and a dream. The first year was rocky, the second showed progress—but still not enough to go full-time. Now, in this third year, everything feels different. I’m incredibly blessed to be doing photography for a living, and I don’t take the opportunity for granted. But even with this growth, I’ve realized something important: I’m not done. Not even close.
Growth Means Raising the Bar
There is potential for business everywhere. I was playing it safe, settling for less, thinking I had arrived. But if I want to reach the goals I’ve set for myself, I have to push harder. I’ve been doing good work—but I know I’m capable of great work.
This season is about going all-in. There’s no Plan B. Photography is not just my job; it’s my calling. After having conversations with trusted peers and a successful entrepreneur, I was reminded of what it really takes to thrive in business. Their insights challenged me to evaluate where I’m at and commit to a higher standard.
Vision Beyond Myself
One of my biggest dreams is to have a family one day. But the way I’ve been operating—without proper structure or long-term planning—won’t allow for that. That has to change.
The shift I’m making now is less about systems and more about mindset. I need to think beyond myself. It’s not just about how I can succeed for me—it’s about how I can serve others through photography and build a career that’s sustainable and meaningful.
To grow a thriving photography business, I need to give it time, effort, discipline, and heart. I believe I can make it—not just as a business owner, but as someone who brings joy to others and captures their most important moments with authenticity and purpose.
The Future Starts With Today
This is a call to anyone out there who feels like they’re coasting: don’t settle. Don’t be okay with okay. If you have dreams that require action, then not planning is the fastest way to fail. I’ve lived that truth—and I’m choosing a different path now.
My goal is to grow this photography business as big and as beautifully as possible—while capturing as many smiles, stories, and meaningful moments as I can. There’s enough opportunity out there to surpass every expectation. I just need to put in the work.
Here’s to year three—and all the growth ahead.
