My Journey to Full-Time Photography
How did I become a full-time photographer? What did I do to get here, and what was God’s role in it all?
When I look at my life—what I have been blessed with and what I currently get to do—some might consider it "luck." When I first started, I didn’t know how far photography would go, nor did I have a clear idea of what this life would look like. But now that I’m here, I feel incredibly blessed.
Hard Work vs. The Lord’s Will
It would be easy to say that my hard work, dedication, and talent got me to where I am today. But that wouldn't be totally accurate.
While I can put in the work to pursue certain outcomes, I can’t control what happens from day to day. In the end, it is all determined by the Lord. I definitely have the agency to chase my goals, but if it wasn't for God establishing my steps, I don't know where I would be. Everything I have is from Him, and forgetting that is a quick road to pride and destruction.
The Leap of Faith: Walking the Path
Since God has established my steps, it is up to me to actually walk them. There is no point in having a path if no one walks on it. It is essential to move forward on the trail that has been laid out before you.
For me, walking that path meant taking some massive leaps of faith. I poured tens of thousands of dollars into professional photography equipment and invested every bit of time I had to get this business running. At that point in my life, the timing was imperative—I knew I had to find my career, and I had to be serious about it.
Knowing the path and actually doing the work are two different things. Pursuing photography with everything I had was the act of "walking out" what God had for me. Now, my job is to continue in that.
Faith in Motion
In the end, God is in control, and my role is to follow. My photography business and everything that comes with it is a reflection of my faith in God’s movement. To put it simply: God did this, and all the glory goes to Him.
Praise God.
