Champagne Pop at the Fountain
Popping champagne is one of the most exciting graduation traditions at Texas A&M, and while its origin isn’t completely clear, it’s a favorite for seniors celebrating years of hard work. Two of the most popular spots for this celebration are the bell tower and the Gruy Fountain — and today we’re highlighting the fountain.
The Gruy Fountain at Texas A&M is an ideal spot for popping champagne and capturing unforgettable graduation photos. As the sun sets, the fountain catches a warm golden glow, creating perfect lighting for photos. If you want to take advantage of this golden hour glow, aim to arrive about 45 minutes before sunset. While some newer buildings partially block the sun during this time, the fountain still provides a beautiful backdrop for photos with friends, family, or solo.
Officially, there are signs prohibiting champagne and entry into the fountain. But for generations of Aggies, the tradition of a celebratory champagne pop at the Gruy Fountain has become a rite of passage — and one that’s here to stay.
