It's Triathlon Time!

This past weekend I had the pleasure of photographing my buddy Mason at Cal Tri Austin (September 21, 2025). Cal Tri is one of those Austin events that mixes beautiful city scenery with serious athletic heart — swimming, biking, and running all wrapped into one hard-earned day. Mason only had about a month to prepare, so being there with my camera felt like watching determination turn into results.

Austin is a perfect backdrop for a race like this — trendy, young, and scenic, with the Capitol and Hill Country vibes all around. That setting makes for great photos: wide-open swim starts, gritty transition areas, and runners grinding past cheering crowds. On a gorgeous day in this city, you could feel how Austin welcomes athletes who want to show what they’ve been working on.

Mason finished 13th overall, which is impressive given his short prep time. He’s always been a hard worker and healthy to begin with, and the photos I shot show that effort — the concentration, the push, and the quiet relief at the finish. For me, travel and sports photography like this is ideal because I get to document real journeys across Texas, not just single moments. Nothing comes easy, and every moment is special — that’s the story I try to tell behind each frame.

If you’re training for a race, planning a triathlon, or just want your competitive journey documented in Austin, I’d love to help capture it. If you want your story photographed — the early mornings, the transitions, the finish-line smiles — contact me and let’s plan to tell it through images.
