My Time in Guatemala: A Glimpse of the Kingdom
One Way Community is a mission-based program in Guatemala made up of young individuals who sacrifice their time, energy, and resources to serve the less fortunate. They work in both nearby and remote villages, bringing hope by providing food, educating children, and being a light in dark places.
I had the privilege of spending two weeks with One Way Community and witnessing their work firsthand. It was powerful. It was challenging. But most of all, it was a beautiful glimpse of God’s Kingdom being brought to Earth. The love, heart, and effort poured into this mission are nothing short of inspiring.
I saw children laughing, mothers watching their kids in peace, and food being handed out to those who needed it most. It was a huge blessing to witness and be a small part of.
I’ve always heard about living conditions in other countries—but seeing it in person is something else entirely. It humbled me deeply. As I talked with team members and locals, one truth stood out:
“People in Guatemala and America see God differently. People in America ask for more business; people in Guatemala ask for more to survive.” -Rodrigo, Team member of One Way Community
That single sentence captured so much of what I experienced. It made me even more appreciative of the blessings in my own life and reminded me of the vital role fathers play in the household—something I saw both celebrated and urgently needed in the villages we visited.
I came back realizing how blessed I truly am: to pursue photography as my calling, to live in the United States, and above all, to know that Jesus Christ died for my sins. Bilsan and the entire One Way Community team have done an exceptional job serving in Guatemala, and I pray I can reflect that same spirit of sacrificial love and service in my own life. Praise God!
