Decisions, Decisions...

After finally deciding to pursue photography, the next step was to get the technology to make the business happen. I've always thought I would do more videography, so I wanted to have a camera that excels in both video and photography. While my phone is capable of taking video and photos, who would take me seriously? The difference in quality is night and day, so compromising on this was not an option.

I remember like it was yesterday, spending a large part of spring break 2022 in Estes Park, Colorado, searching for hours on end to decide which camera I should choose. Should I get Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fujifilm, or another brand? This was a big decision because I had never spent so much money on anything before, and it would integrate me into whichever ecosystem I chose. After many articles, YouTube videos, prayer, and thought, I concluded that Sony was the best choice. It was the hot thing, its quality is top-notch, and the third-party lens support was solid, which was important since I could only afford that at the moment.

There are many reasons to pick a camera: familiarity, knowledge of the product, pricing, quality, popularity, and all these factors definitely came into play. The main takeaway is that I needed a solid camera for a decent price to serve others well, and that's how I decided to get the Sony A7 IV. To be honest, I now realize any camera could have made me happy, especially with today's choices, but I'm definitely satisfied with what I picked. What really brings any camera to life is your willingness to learn, grow, and use it. In the end, the camera is just a tool, and it is what you make of it.
