Nailing down a Niche
Starting my career in photography with a new camera in Bryan-College Station, I was initially unsure about which type of photography to pursue although I've narrowed it down a bit. Although I had little to no experience, I knew I wanted to interact with people. Therefore, I aimed to focus on photography that would allow me to engage with others.
There are many types of photography to choose from, including sports photography, event photography, wedding photography, graduation photography, headshot photography, and travel photography. You get the picture—pun intended. Here are some ideas I'm using to niche down. First of all I love people so it has to involve people. Second is that I desire to go see new places so if it's at only at a studio it's not something I'll aim for. Third point is that I should be able to enjoy the event or moment to a degree. While I'm not opposed to any kind of photography, there are some areas, like maternity or food, that I feel others excel at more than I would. However, my preferences might change in the future.
Given College Station's large student population and the fact that I'm starting a business, I'm open to a variety of opportunities. Serving as a photographer in the Bryan-College Station area has its pros and cons but has definitely provided me with the chance to grow, for which I'm thankful. Some pros include the large student population, the many events happening here, and the ability to stay informed about local activities. The cons are that it's not a big town and it's not particularly scenic.
In the end, I'm going to seize opportunities as they come and make the most of them. Being able to serve the community is a blessing, and I'm happy I made the move to do so with a camera. Over time, I'll niche down, but for now, I'm excited to explore various avenues of photography in Bryan-College Station and around the world.
